Updates: Gaza City under ‘heaviest wave’ of Israeli attacks since war began

By Al Jazeera Published 2025-09-19 00:42 Updated 2025-09-19 16:54 Source: Al Jazeera

  • The Israeli army is mobilising near the heart of Gaza City, forcing tens of thousands of Palestinians onto coastal roads in a bid to drive them out of the Strip’s main urban centre, amid what our correspondent on the ground reports is “the heaviest wave” of Israeli attacks on the city since the war began.
  • People in besieged Gaza City tell Al Jazeera about nonstop attacks, including strikes by drones and fighter jets and blasts from remote-controlled robots, with the Israeli military blowing up entire neighbourhoods as it advances.
  • The United States has vetoed a crucial UN Security Council resolution demanding an “immediate, unconditional and permanent” ceasefire in Gaza that was approved by 14 of the 15 member states.
  • Israel’s war on Gaza has killed at least 65,141 people and wounded 165,925 since October 2023. Thousands more are believed to be buried under the rubble. A total of 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the October 7 attacks, and about 200 were taken captive.
