- China beat Indonesia 2-1 to win their first game in Group C of the third round of Asian Football Confederation (AFC) qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
- In a must-win game for the hosts at the Qingdao Youth Football Stadium, China went into half time 2-0 up thanks to strikes from Behram Abduweli in the 21st minute and Yuning Zhang just before the break.
- Indonesia dominated possession for large stretches but lacked a cutting edge, although Thom Haye scored late to give the visitors hope of a comeback.
- The referee gave nine minutes of added time, but China held firm to secure a vital victory after they had lost their previous three group games.
- China remain bottom of the group on goal difference, but are now equal on points with fifth-place Indonesia. Bahrain are in fourth place on four points with a game in hand as they play Saudi Arabia in Jeddah later today.
- The top two teams in the group will automatically qualify for the World Cup while the third- and fourth-placed finishers from the three groups will head into a final qualification round.
